ConstructConnect Project Intelligence (CCPI) is the flagship platform enabling trade contractors to manage the entire pre-construction process.
Project Overview
Title: ConstructConnect Project Intelligence (CCPI)
My Role: UX Lead (Design & Research)
Team: Product Manager
Duration: 1 year
Impact:
ConstructConnect unified its acquired products into CCPI — a single platform streamlining pre-construction so trade contractors can stay organized, win more work, and grow their business.
CCPI generated $1M in sales within weeks of launch, increasing demo-to-close rates beyond previous benchmarks, and significantly boosting Takeoff product attachment rates
Context & Problem Definiton
Background: Trade contractors (subcontractors) once relied on multiple tools to find projects, submit bids, and track results — a fragmented process that slowed organization and limited profitability.
Target Users: Subcontractors
Problem Statement: How can we be the place where subcontractors connect and confidently prepare projects before they build?
Constraints: The inability to gather an abundance of knowledge on the nuances of what subcontractors are doing without directly shadowing them
Research & Discovery
Methods: Interviews, Persona Validation, MVP Testing
Key Insights: Subcontractors need a dashboard with multiple drill-downs
Impact on Direction:
Validate personas/workflows
Confirm need for a combined solution
Tested industry terminology
Gathered feedback on platform design, information architecture, navigation, and workflows
Phase 1
The unified platform concept was validated through interviews - Voice of the Customer (VOC) and Voice of the Organization (VOO) sessions
Phase 2
Features were prioritized, and the MVP launched with strong marketing and sales support.
Phase 3
Weekly VOC and VOO sessions feed new items into the sprint backlog.s
Phase 4
Researched how to integrate legacy product features into the new platform while sunsetting the old tools.
Phase 5
Prioritized reducing friction in the current app before adding new features.
I led cross-functional workshops with VPs, Product Managers, Developers, and Marketing Team Members to build CCPI personas, then validated them with customers of varying experience levels.
Customer interviews informed experience and journey maps of trade contractors’ bidding process, helping us identify pain points and tie CCPI roadmap items directly to persona needs like Terry’s.
Final Solution
Within weeks of launch, CCPI hit $1M in sales, boosted demo-to-close rates, and drove higher bundling of our Takeoff product. The team celebrated this success together at the Connect ‘19 conference.
To give subcontractors a holistic project view, we introduced a Task List and Calendar for upcoming work, plus a Company Watch List to track valued or potential partners.
Users can drill down from the dashboard for detailed task views in the Task List.
“This program is a daily part of my life now. It works great and if ever there’s a problem your guidance navigates me through. I was awarded a 45k job that I would have never known was available had it not been for my morning email that comes like clockwork. ”
To help subcontractors find relevant opportunities, Predict Preferences let them visually customize the types of projects they wanted.
On the Find Opportunities page, users search for projects and see a Match Score based on their Predict Preferences to gauge fit.
“Without ConstructConnect we wouldn’t know about half the projects going on in our area. They have helped us expand our client base, model our production capacity, and become a much more proactive business.”
Heuristic Evaluations
I created a rotating heuristic evaluation process with other UX designer in the company (not working on CCPI), ensuring fresh feedback that fed bugs and updates into the backlog.
Usability Testing
I designed and ran structured usability studies with a broad customer base, using staging environments for consistent scenarios and UserZoom for moderated sessions.
System Usability Scale (SUS)
We used the SUS in surveys and usability tests to track CCPI’s score changes across Sprint cycles and releases.
Ongoing Research Efforts
To track Sprint progress, we used three research methods in addition to weekly VOC and VOO sessions.
